I've just finished reading it. I wish I had read it years ago. It made me realise the term 'gods visible organisation' is just wt speak for elevating their own sense of importance. I don't know how I ever overlooked that it wasn't a biblical term. Oh well ...

Was the TM School really any good ?
by Phizzy inmany of us were members of the theocratic ministry school for many years.
some say it helped them with public speaking, and maybe it did for some.. but, when you look back at the quality of student it turned out, was it really any good ?.
most elders are crap public speakers, most r&f bros are crap at reading aloud, most jw's are crap at selling their religion at the door, most jw's have scant real knowledge of the bible.. there are reasons for this, quite often the tms overeer hasn't a clue how to teach a person to progress.

The tms did produce some good speakers however what was in the book was pure basics that were common sense and could be picked up anywhere, such as questions illustrations, pausing etc. what I always thought the tms failed to deliver on was personality and humour. Everyone delivered the same style and a persons natural character never seemed to shine through to their talks, particularly for the brothers, the sisters IMO had a slightly easier task!

Your earliest doubt?
by Apognophos inthis might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).

I was about 12 and studying the reformation in my history class, the lesson discussed how modern day religions had lasted through the religious crusades to how we know them today. My question was that if jws were the one true religion that had its history back in early Christianity (and some would even argue existence before then), where were they during the reformation and why and how did they only spring up in the ninteeth century? That was my constant lingering doubt about the authenticity of jws

I need some serious advice...
by confusedteenager ini'm almost a year out of high school and of course, i'm not in college.
i'm a pioneer (sigh) with little to no work experience and having a really hard time finding any work.
i want to go back to college, but it's going to be difficult now that i'm a pioneer, and my parents cannot really afford the loans that will incur should i pursue going to college.

I pioneered straight from school and when I stopped doing that there were no well paid jobs to go to. I spent many years regretting the fact I had never gone to uni and that was my lot in life. I finally went at 41. What should have been an educational progression turned into a life long goal. it should never be that way for anyone. Please, stop the pioneering, that can wait and give yourself a good grounding for your future, without regrets.

Can anyone help?
by Pink sapphire inhi, i'm doing some research, which many here have participated in and could do with some help.. on another forum some months ago someone commented that in a july 1992 watchtower it said that the emotional effects of disfellowshipping may last far beyond reinstatement.
i thought this a really interesting statement and would like to include it in my assignment, acknowledging the harm done by disfellowshipping and its not just a protective and disciplinary process.
i don't know if i believe they would actually go that far.. my problem is that i have no access to wt literature (i dont really want fo visit my old congregation library) and the online library on www.jw.org only goes back to 2000. does anyone here have access to bound volumes and a bit of time that they could check this out for me?.

Thanks everyone for your help, really appreciated. Leaving quietly, I think that is just what I was looking for and thanks a million for including the reference! Straight into the assignment!
It's true how they shift responsibility for harm of their actions back to the 'sinner' when in reality disfellowshipping is unscriptural. When I read crisis of co science ray franz described it beautifully as an organisational procedure rather than scriptural directive. On this basis, it is interesting how they acknowledge this causes emotional Trauma. A loving organisation. Ummmm....

Hi Lou, I lived in durban for many years. My lack of proficiency in Zulu made me unemployable!! I understand affirmative action. Isn't it terrible not to be considered for work on the merits of competence, but it happens the world over although its more evident in sa than elsewhere. Is it in legislation now? ... It's been some time since I was last there. A friend recently went to Uruguay, apparently there are no visa restrictions for South Africans there... Just an idea.. Good luck, chin up.., see opportunities and don't let barriers pull you down. Hope mr-sweep- you- off-your- feet is round the corner and he's foreign!!
